Title
Medieval copper alloy D shaped buckle
Description
English: Medieval copper alloy buckle, 20mm long, 17mm wide and 6mm thick. It consists of a D shaped plate which widens towards the centre and is set at an angle. It has a narrow circular sectioned bar which has two sub-spherical knops where it joins the curved plate. The plate is decorated with three (one now missing) rivet like cylindrical protrusions. In form it is similar to 14th century buckles, but none have the rivet like attachments. (see page 20, figs 66-8, in Whitehead, R. Buckles 1250-1800).
