Title |
Medieval copper alloy zoomorphic brooch |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy zoomorphic brooch fragment of early Anglo-Saxon date (c.470-600AD). The brooch fragment consists of a horse head terminal, which is bent and distorted, perhaps by heat.The eyes of the horse are formed by a pair of projections on each side of the brooch, and the nostrils by a pair of rounded projections at the end. On the underside of the terminal, behind the nose, there is an adhering copper-alloy fragment which looks like the remains of a catchplate, but which is more likely to be a melted scrap which has fused to the brooch, probably during cremation.
