Title
Medieval harness pendant
Description
English: A worn, copper alloy, medieval harness pendant (c. 13th to 14th century AD). The pendant is largely complete, however, it is missing a small part of the suspension loop. It is heraldic in design; shield-shaped and with the suspension loop set at right angles to the plan of the pendant. The front face of the plate has enamelled and gilded decoration carrying a heraldic device. A red diagonal band divides the pendant in two with three five-pointed stars that appear to have originally been gilded. The lower and upper parts of the divided sections are worn and therefore, the heraldry can not be recognised. The reverse is undecorated and corroded. The pendant is in a fair condition. The pendant is 37.4 mm high, 25.5 mm in width and weighs 6.9 grams.
