Title
Medieval lace chape
Description
English: A copper alloy probable Medieval lace chape. It is sub-circular in section and is made from folded sheet metal. This type has an edge to edge seam. The narrow end could possibly have been open-ended (free), although it appears broken. There is a break near the wide end where a rivet hole may possibly have been, however there is no clear evidence of this. It measures 68.1mm x 6mm, weighing 4.43g. It has a light green patina in patches. Due to the missing important information, this cannot be dated any closer than 1230-1450AD, using Egan and Pritchard, 'Dress Accessories' p.282-290.
