Title
Medieval lace tag
Description
English: A copper alloy Medieval possible lace chape. This chape is larger than normal. The chape, like many found, has been flattened and also broken at both ends. It has an edge to edge seam and tapers slightly. It measures 39.2mm x 14.1mm x 3.2mm, weighing 1.3g. Egan and Pritchard (1991) mentions that these larger lace chapes have a possible gradual standardization in size, phasing out larger ones after the middle of the 14th century. This chape therefore dates between c.1270-c.1350. See ‘Dress Accessories’, p.288-90 for examples.
