Description |
English: A cast copper alloy purse bar dating from the late 15th to early 16th centuries. It comprises of two sections; a vertical bar which passes through a horizontal bar. the horizontal bar has a widened circular middle with a central circular hole. This narrows on either side to create stepped shoulders to a circular sectioned bar, widening at the ends to rounded knops. The vertical bar is circular sectioned and passes through the hole in the vertical bar; has a triangular knop on one end to keep it in place. The bar then widens to a rectangular neck from which an oval loop projects. It measures 44.9mm in height and 38.0mm in width. It weighs 14.63g.
This is a Ward Perkins Class B1 (1940, pg. 167, fig. 52) type. |
