Description
English: Incomplete left maxilla (‘upper jaw bone’) and incomplete right dentary (‘tooth-bearing lower jaw bone’) of the large theropod dinosaur Megalosaurus bucklandii from the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian) of southern England. Note that the dentary is shown form the ‘inner’ (medial) side whereas the maxilla (with some matrix rock left in the tooth area and in the area of the maxillary ‘fenestra’) is shown from the outer (lateral) side, because the two bones are from opposite sides of the skull. Nevertheless they give a good impression of the total size of the skull. Furthermore, the dentary (catalogue no. OUMNH J.13505) is the lectotype of M. bucklandii, while the maxilla (OUMNH J.13506) is a referred specimen. Both specimens are from the Taynton Limestone Formation of Stonesfield, Oxfordshire.[1][2]
