English: Members of the ceremonial color guard at Naval Station Everett, Wash., Dec. 7, 2012, present a U.S. flag that was flown aboard the battleship USS Arizona (BB 39) before the ship was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941, as Dr. Karl Voegtlin, the donator of the flag, speaks at the lectern. The morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombers staged a surprise attack on U.S. military forces in Hawaii. The day after the attack, before a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war against Japan and the U.S. officially entered World War II. |
