English: In this file photo, Lt. Col. Robert Kimmel, center right, poses with his family shortly before deploying to Liberia in support of Operation United Assistance. Joining him are his two sons, from left, Caleb and Noah, and his wife Beth. Kimmel is the operations officer for the 36th Engineer Brigade based out of Fort Hood, Texas. Though Kimmel has made sacrifices to support the mission in Liberia, he feels it is worth the missed milestones. “The opportunity to help even in a small way to curb this global virus and saving some people’s lives, those lives are worth the little sacrifices I’m making.” United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa. |
