round the rum wagon, beastly drunk, and all the elements of averitable pandemonium of abominationswere there. Mr. Moir, of the AfricanLakes Trading Company, declares he hasseen boys and girls of fifteen years ofage getting their wages in rum. Malike, king of Xupe, wrote to Bishop Crow-ther in this manner, Liquor has ruinedour country. It has made our people in-sane. same stand for his own sake? Study thepicture herewith and be convinced thatas sure as your life begins this awfulhabit of tasting this infamous stuff, justthat sure shall it be transformed as wasthe life here told and shown. The two pictures here, one of a pureand innocent boy, the other of a sin-steeped drunkard, have been used withgreat effect by Mrs. Ellen M. Watkins,of the Womans Synodical TemperanceAssociation of Pennsylvania, who hasdistributed not only thousands of copiesjn English, but thirty thousand copiesin three other languages. The Honora-ble Taro Ando, president of the JapaneseTemperance Society, uses it in his work, and among the Indians it has done agreat work. The pictures are from life. It is pos- sible for one as fair of soul as this boymust be to become as foul as the drunk-ard. The experience of a famous Eng-lish artist, many years ago, shows thisto be so. This artist painted a beautifulpicture of a boy for which no name wasmore suitable than Innocence. Yearsafter
