Title |
Modern: Seal Matrix |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy 'fob' seal of late Georgian or Victorian date (1750-1850). The seal is formed with a rectangular glass intaglio, rectangular machine pressed body with an applied small suspension loop. It is likely that the body of the setting is hollow and it is decorated with a machine pressed geometric design which has been silvered / tinned. The impression face of the matrix is formed from a cut purple glass intaglio. This is well cut and depicts the laureate crowned head of a youthful women facing right. The lady has curled hair which is gathered at the nape of the neck and a relatively large and pointed nose. The intaglio is in a good condition but the copper alloy element is a light mid green colour with a number of distortions caused by movement in the ploughsoil.
19.6mm long, 16.2mm wide and rises to a height of 30.2mm. It weighs 8.14 grams |
