Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy 'fob' seal of modern date probably later 18th or early 19th Century (1740-1850). The seal matrix is composite, being formed from a black glass intaglio set into a cast body. The metal body is broken and damaged, the upper part, which included the handle and loop, is lost, the circular base has been damaged, with half the intaglio missing. The remaining half of the intaglio is set into the base and held in place by a rounded, crimped edge. The seal holder curves up towards the damaged remains of the handle. The sides are rounded, without facets. The intaglio has been cut with a sun burst design facing, with a face in the centre and two lengths of rays, alternating one long, one short, radiating out from it.
