Statement made by Dairy and Food Commissioner James Foustat a meeting of the Pure Butter Protective Association in Phila-delphia, June 17, 1909, held at the rooms of the Philadelphia Pro-duce Exchange, Front and Chestnut Streets, at 1.30 P. M-: The recent agitation concerning the prosecutions under the Oleo-margarine Act of 1901, and the queries raised as to whether theAct was being enforced in Allegheny and surrounding counties,render it proper that a brief statement should be made at thistime of what has actually been undertaken and accomplished bythe Dairy and Food Department since the passage of the Act. The figures given, of course, convey little idea of the actualamount of work done in the cases, as very many of the samplestaken proved to be pure butter, and, when otherwise, frequentlygreat difficulty has been experienced in procuring the trial andconviction of offenders.
