N the 15th of August 1775, the rebels, flushed withtheir late victoiy over Captain Meyland and hisparty, whether with a design to brave Fourgeoud, or tointimidate his troops, being well apprised by their spiesthat he was at Barbacoeba, had the assurance to set fire toall the huts in two different camps Avhich had been leftstanding by his patroles, while they continued shoutingand hallooing the whole night within our hearing; butthis only proved an incentive to action, and enraged ourveteran commander so much, that he now declared hewould have ample revenge at all hazards. During thisnight a large tiger also alarmed the camp, but did nodamage of any kind.
