Description |
English: Naval Officer Who Came To the Rescue of French Family at Oran. 25 and 26 January 1943, Oran and Mers-el-kebir. Lt Ronald G Hewson, Rnvr, Was Looking in the Window of a Wireless Shop at Oran, North Africa. He Overheard the Manager Telling a French Customer That a Broken Wireless, Which He Had Brought In, Could Not Be Repaired. Lt Hewson Who in Peacetime Ran His Own Radio Transmitting Station and Was a Keen Amateur Wireless Mechanic, Went in and Offered To Do the Repair Himself. His Offer Was Accepted. Since Then He Has Paid Frequent Visits To the Home of the Wireless Set's Owner, and Is Now Accepted As One of the Family. As a Mark of Appreciation the Son of the Family Presented Him With a Leather Wallet Bearing the Inscription "as a Token of My Sympathy and Tremendous Admiration For the Heroic English People".
