ENOCH HENRY CURRIER IN the history of education in the State of New York thereare several names indissolubly identified with the instructionof the deaf—men whose professional careers have been centeredin this special line of education. Among these, a name veryprominent is that of Enoch Henry Currier. He is a son ofEnoch Grerrish and Jane Hill Currier, and was born on August22, 1849, in the city of Newburyport, Massachusetts. He is adescendant of Richard Currier, who came from England in theearly part of the seventeenth century, and settled in Massachu-setts, of whose town of Salisbury he was the founder. Hismaternal grandfather served throughout the War of the Revolu-tion. His paternal grandfather was an officer on the privateerDecatur, and afterward welcomed General Lafayette to the cityof Newburyport. Mr. Enoch Gerrish Currier was a member ofthe Veteran Artillery Association of Newburyport, the first libra-rian of the public library of that city, and, as Collector of thePort, made
