HUGH GORDON MILLERCommissioner Hugh Gordon MillerCommissioner HUGH Gordon Miller, Esq., was born in Norfolk, on March 2,1875, the son of Miles S. Miller, of Norfolk county, Va., andhis wife Fannie Virginia Harrison, of North Carolina. Hismaternal grandfather (Harrison) was clerk of the Superior Court andProbate Judge of Camden county, N. C, for more than a quartercentury. Mr. Miller was admitted to the bar in Virginia on March 20,1896, and at once resigned as Deputy Clerk of the courts of Norfolkto enter upon the active practice of his profession, which has foundhim almost constantly engaged in important litigations first in Vir-ginia and later in New York city. He was admitted to practice before the United States SupremeCourt at the November term in 1898, and was probably the youngestadvocate who ever appeared to argue a case before that augusttribunal. Moreover, this highest court of the land by unanimousconsent on that occasion extended the usual time allowed an advocateto address
