It iscaused by the accumulation of gas in the intestines.There is apt to be such an accumulation in thelarge bowel, just below the diaphragm, causing thepatient often to cry out with pain. The use of awarm flaxseed poultice over this region will relievethe pain and enable the gas to work down into thelower bowel. The use of the vaginal nozzle in therectum will enable it often to be expelled and thusrelieve the pain. The drink of hot tea or very hotwater will also aid in this result. Fig. 29.
