English: (1 in a multiple picture album) Olmsted Point, along the Tioga Road, looks down on Yosemite Valley from the east--and from a very different angle. Though you might not immediately recognize Half Dome, it is one of the most prominent peaks you can see from Olmsted Point. (Look in left center of photo.)Imagine this as far as elevation goes. When you are in Yosemite Valley looking up at Half Dome, its summit is 8,000 feet above you. Here at Olmsted Point, you look down on the top of the dome from 1,000 feet above it. |
