did not seem to haveas serious an eifect on them as on the apples. Bartlett : Bore a large crop. The fruit was on an average smaller thanother \ears. White Dotexxe : Bore well: the crop was uniform in size and soldreadily. i9o: FRUIT EXPERIMENT STATIONS. 43 GiFFAED : Was well loaded and was fit for market early. The fruitwas of good qua lit J^ Hardy: Also had a considerable load of pears, but they were not solarge as last year. GonDALE : Was very heavily loaded, the fruit perhaps a little under-size, but was very uniform. KiEFFER: This variety though not of as good quality as the othersloads well. If an attempt was made it is probable that these could begrown in large quantities for canning purposes and leave a good margin. SIMCOE FRUIT EXPERIME^T STATIOT^I. By G. C. Castox. Craighurst. There was very little in the way of new stock received for planting.A few currants, including some new varieties, and some of the old, standardsorts and two trees of the seedless apple.

Home of G. C. Caston, Craighurst, Ont. This year was a year of extreme drouth—the most severe in over fortyyears. Orchards in sod suffered severeh^ but those cultivated camethrough fairly well. The apple crop at one time did not look as if much of itwould be fit to pack, but when the September rains came, they grew sorapidly that there was a fair crop of pretty good quality after all. Theapples averaged smaller than usual and a larger percentage than usual hadto be packed Xo. 2, but they were very clean and free from scale and otherblemishes, so that No. 2 stock this year, except in size, was quite equalto the Xo. 1 of other years. 44 REPORT OF THE No. 17 Pears did very well this year, tJiough not grown extensively in ttislocality. Those who had a few year trees got a very fair crop. The varietiesthat seem to do best here are, Flemish Beauty, Bartlett, Clapps Favorite,Louise Bonne and Kieffer.
