The upper margin of the plate should reach the twelfth rib, and the plateitself should extend down far enough to receive the shadows of the portionof the ureters above the ilium. The tube is placed directly in front of thepatient, over the median line just above the umbilicus, and from ten tofourteen inches from the abdominal wall. In this position the shadowof both kidney regions and the extra-pelvic portions of the ureters areobtained. A second exposure should always be made, and in this the upper border ofthe plate should reach the crest of the ilium and its lower margin be below thetrochanter. As before, the tube is placed in the median line, but this time itis half way between the symphysis and the umbilicus.
