Leur voix est, en géné-ral, douce et variée; elle est encore susceptiblede perfectionnement ; aussi, des espèces sappro-prient-elles en peu de temps les cris ou quelquesphrases du chant de leurs congénères surtout, pla-cés près delles en volière. Ce genre possède en Suisse et en Savoie quinzeespèces. Comme elles varient entre elles par leurbec plus ou moins conique en tout sens, jadopte,pour les décrire, les coupes données par M. Tem-minck, auxquelles je napporte que de légèresmodifications. Ces oiseaux se trouvent en consé-quence divisés dans cet ouvrage en trois sections :les Longicônes„ Brevicônes et Laticônes. Le Gros-Bec Vulgaire (Coccothraustes Vulgaris) forme, luiseul, un genre séparé. Première section. LONGICONES fLONGICONIJ.
