gisants sur leau. Pour le former,il amasse une certaine quantité de cannes, quilfixe sur un tas dautres et recouvre ensuite dherbessèches en dehors et de panicules en dedans, de tellesorte que ce berceau peut sélever ou sabaisserselon la crue de leau. La femelle pond de 8 à 14œufs oblongs, roussâtres, ou de couleur café aulait, et garnis de points dun brun noir ; leur granddiamètre est de 5 cent. 4-6 millim., et le petit diam.de 3 cent. 5-7 millim. Les petits, en naissant, sont habillés dun duvetnoir enfumé, et vont tout de suite à leau pour yvivre avec leurs parents. Yers le mois de septembre, les couvées dunmême canton se réunissent et constituent des trou-pes souvent considérables, qui ne se dissolvent quàla pariade prochaine. Plusieurs quittent leur paysà lapproche du froid pour se porter plus au Midi,et y reviennent avec les premiers beaux joursdu printemps; cest alors principalement que des Eckassiers ORNITHOLO&JE DE LA SAVOIE. n.alus idées I1 ulicj liée*.
