, isAg. Alicia, discovered by Bates on the upperAmazon, and considered one of the rarest spe-cies. I saw it often at Iquitos but never morethan one or two at a time, and only succeededin obtaining a few during ray several monthsstay. It is the largest species, spreading nearlyfour inches across the wings. Above, it is adull greenish-blue, covered with black spotswhich are surrounded by lines paler than theground color. On the fore wings are somegrayish dashes, which look as if the color hadbeen rubbed oft in those places. Beneath, thehind wings are pale ochre-yellow, spotted withblack on the edge, while the fore wings arespotted black and w^hite. Another species peculiar to the Upper Ama-zon is Ag. Bdladduna. It closelj^ resemblesAg Anphinome of the Lower Amazon in everydetail of marking, both on upper and undersurface; the only difterence, quite a markedone, however, being that the broad white barof Anphinome is represented bj a few conspic-uous gray spots. 1 P ^feuili *MA.V, 1S8T.*-
