And it takes skill to climb with those laden snowshoes upon your feet. 456 The Outing Magazine trail was a nice busy little job all by itself.As for dragging that toboggan! I wish Icould tell you how much that outfit,hed; and still I*m glad Ill neverknow. It was snowing so fast that thereseemed as much in the air as under foot—like wading in a snowbank a mile high. We had planned to tramp up throughthe Notch and establish a permanent campfrom which base we could make what sidetrips we pleased. Im going to be honestif it kills me! About a mile and a half upthe trail from the tote-road was where theworshipful master stopped to clear hissnowshoes; then he slid over a bank intoa brook bed for a drink of water, afterwhich he held a talkfest. As the oldwoman said, we had bit off more n wecould chaw. We had been about fourhours making that mile and a half whenwe were fresh. Its a simple problem ofmathematics to figure out how many weeksit would take us to reach the top of themountain notch
