Title |
Palaeolithic Handaxe |
||
Description |
English: A flint cordate handaxe of Acheulian (early Palaeolithic) date. The handaxe is in excellent condition, and flake removals can still be clearly seen. The flint itself is of a dark grey colour, although there is some patinisation on both the dorsal and ventral faces - of slightly different colours. The patina on the dorsal face presents itself as two distinct creamy patches which are surrounded by a light brown, almost fawn colour. This brown shade extends over onto the ventral face, although it does not cover more than around a third of the surface, as opposed to almost the whole of the dorsal face. |
