Title
Palaeolithic handaxe
Description
English: A small 'pointed' handaxe with some iron staining over a light-grey underlying flint. There are some small patches of cortex, two on one face, two on one edge, within cavities. These, and a hairline crack on the other face and a small patch of mineralisation below, suggest that the nodule from which this tool was made had to be utilised despite its flaws. The sides taper and thin gradually from the rounded butt end to a point that has survived well. There is some slight battering to the sides as well as an angular removal, further evidence of the flaws in the nodule.
