g most satisfactorily throughout the season, andhis companion was detailed at intervals of two weeks. There was an extensive collection of Colonial pewter, embracingfully two dozen artistically designed pieces, the property of Mr.Gardner C. Leonard of Albany. There was a painted Dutch prayer-bench of 1702 and a crude sort of cradle, said to be the oldest in theState, both loaned by Geo. Douglas Miller, Esq., and allied with thisin the Dutch exhibit was an enormous iron fire-place back removedfrom the Schuyler Flatts, and shown because of the peculiar patternof design cast in its back, apparently an odd form of the Englisharms. Making a lasting impression upon every one who saw it was oneof the enormous iron links, weighing about eighty-five pounds, fromthe Great Chain, which was cast at the Stirling Iron Works of theTownsend family and was buoyed across the Hudson from WestPoint to Constitution Island to prevent the British from sendingtheir fleet further north in Revolutionary times.
