Title |
Penny of Aethelweard |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete silver penny of Aethelweard, c.850-855 AD. The obverse type appears as North (1980) no. 452, while the reverse type appears to be that of later issues, North nos. 454/455. Images of the coin have been examined by Dr Martin Allen and Dr Rory Naismith (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge) who note that this is a new coin type. One third of the coin survives, the remainder missing due to old breaks. |
