English: The Regimental Combat Team 6 Marine of the day is Cpl. Travis Wilson, 23, radio technician, from Perdido, Ala. He has one son, Cory Wilson, who is two years old.
Wilson has been in the Marine Corps for just less than four years. “I joined the Marine Corps because I ran out of my scholarship money,” he joked. “I talked to the Army recruiter, but he wasn’t any good. "Then the girl I was dating at the time recommended the Marines,” he added while laughing. “She said she thought they had the best uniforms.” Although he laughs and jokes about how he came to join the Marine Corps, he says he really enjoys his job. “I picked my job,” he said. “It’s pretty good. I spent my first two years working at base telephone and that wasn’t too bad either. It’s a good job. My favorite part is being able to see the mission accomplished and the communication systems working properly. “The Marine Corps has been good so far,” he continued. “I’ve made some very good friends and I was even introduced to my current girlfriend by a friend I’ve made while in the Marines. I have no complaints.” Wilson says he is currently undecided on if he wants to re-enlist in the Marine Corps or go back to school once he’s out. “I’m currently going to school for accounting at Troy University,” he said. “I definitely want to finish my accounting degree but maybe I’ll do one more enlistment. I still don’t know yet.” Wilson says that when he’s back home he doesn’t do too much, but does enjoy going to the mountains with his girlfriend. Before joining the Marine Corps, Wilson worked at a glass company, a barbecue restaurant and at the accounting section at a furniture store. “I think my favorite job was the restaurant. I met a lot of ladies there,” he added jokingly. “But seriously though, it was my favorite because I had the most responsibility there than any other job I had before.” “I’d like to say hi to my girlfriend Susan,” he said. “I love you! And I also want to say hello to my mom and grandmamma. I miss you guys.” NERD FACT: “I like accounting … I guess that is kind of my nerd fact, isn’t it?” |
