Title |
Pewter whistle/rattle |
||
Description |
English: Cast tin/lead-alloy or pewter whistle/rattle dating from the late modern period, i.e. c. AD1800-1900. The artefact is slightly bent and patinated but otherwise in good condition. The whistle is about 64mm long and is decorated with at least four round mouldings along its body. There are four cast loops on one moulding and two on another, probably small attachment loops for bells or other rattling equipment. Most of these whistle rattles are known to have been made in silver which would have probably been much healthier for baby and parents. This pewter or tin/lead-alloy whistle, however, was not as upmarket and probably meant for babies from middle or lower class families.
