English: This photograph depicts a female teacher with her kindergarten class postcard of a young woman holding a black dog with seven small children standing around her. The children hold rackets and soft toys. The writing lower left reads: 'Our Kindergarten Class at play' and the writing lower right reads: 'Miss(?) Capon 28 Collins Rd., Southsea'. It is possible that this photograph depicts Miss Emily Capon's Private School which was located at 28 Collins Road in Southsea, United Kingdom in 1915. This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars. The photos in the collection were taken mainly in Sydney and Newcastle during the first half of the 20th century. |
