English: Pair of Belgian boxlock percussion purse pistols, 19th century pair of small percussion pistols; single shot; .342 inch calibre; 1 inch smoothbore barrels; boxlock; folding concealed trigger; ivory one-piece grips; twist-off barrels with four grooves for barrel tool; foliate engraved trigger and action, .1 pistol has loose pistol grip at right hand body end, cracked on right hand side markings- Belgium proof marks (Liege) on on left hand side of barrel breech area- E - LG - (star) maker- unknown, (Belgium gun trade), 19th century

Notes

pair of Belgian boxlock percussion purse pistols, 19th century Part of Cafler collection and possibly belonged to the first Mrs Cafler, Uranie Deore Cafler. Eugene Cafler migrated to New Zealand in the 1840s living initially at Kororareka, and subsequently (circa 1853) moving to Whangarei where he died in 1893. Uranie Cafler died circa 1867 when Eugene remarried.
