The Waterbury System, Style C, illustrated above, is for use in buildings havingordinary 8x8 or 8xl2 shelf chimneys that have not given smoke trouble with acommon stove. 44 Plans for School Improvement Water Supply. Great care should be used in providing plenty of pure water.Every possible source of contamination should be carefully guarded;the source of water supply ought to be at least 100 feet from anyprivy or cesspool. The top of the well or cistern should be providedwith a close-fitting cement top, so that it would be impossible forrabbits, rats, mice or filth to enter. Water is one of the best knownagents in the transmission of disease germs, and many cases ofsickness and even death are due to the fact that school boards haveneglected to provide pure water. The water from open wells orsprings should not be used, and frequent tests should be made tosee that the water is free from all contamination.
