English: Capt. Byron Owen, United States Marine Corps, presents the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device posthumously to family members of 1st Lt. Trevor J. Yurista. The award ceremony was hosted by Marine Air Group 49, Detachment B, stationed on Stewart Air National Guard Base, N.Y. Yurista, a member of the 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, was serving with Force Recon Platoon, Task Force 2/7, when he took a mortal wound from an improvised explosive device while returning from actions he coordinated against insurgents in Afghanistan's Helmand province on Oct. 27, 2008. The Yurista family also accepted the New York State Conspicuous Service Medal awarded to Trevor by the representatives in the New York State legislature and issued by Gov. David A. Patterson. Yurista hailed from Pleasant Valley, N.Y. |
