Description
English: Spherical body opening into six segments hinged at base about a central hexagonal pillar and held in place, when closed, by circular convex cap screwed into pillar at top; pierced finial with loose ring; at base, small ball surrounded by incurving scrolls; exterior engraved with three circular medallions containing full-blown rose motif alternating with figures of Fame, two blowing trumpets, the third standing on sphere with sail held above her head, foliate scrolls and birds interspersed, borders of quatre-foil motifs; sides of segments and pillar engraved with scrollwork; oblong sliding covers to each compartment engraved with names of perfumes, small knobs at ends serving to pull them out and fitting into holes in pillar to keep segments more firmly in place when pomander is closed; interior gilded.
