AHistory of England during the ThirtyYears Peace following 1815, a work ofmuch interest, the completion of a gen-eral History of England begun byCharles Knight, is among the most im-portant of her later works, amongwhich are to be included an interestingseries of Biograj^hical Sketches con-tributed since 1852 to the London Daily News; a book on HouseholdEducation, a collection of papers fromthe Peoples Journal, and a Com-plete Guide to the Lake Country, inwhich she has long resided, in a cot-tage built for herself at Amble-side.

CHARLES DICKENS. THE true biography of an originalauthor, to a greater degree thanis generally supposed, is to be foundin his writings. His life history iswritten in his works. Though it maynot always lie on the surface for theobservation of the casual reader, or beexpressed in definite fact or very clearoutline, yet it exists implicitly in-wrought in every mental product. Ofcourse, what is purely mathematical orscientific must be exempted in this re-mark ; but it is essentially true of allthat involves knowledge of the world,taste, feeling, imagination—in fine, ofwhat constitutes the man in his moralrelations or social experiences.
