Photographic portrait of Captain Big Water of the Walapai Indians, ca.1902. He can be seen from the waist up in profile facing left. A boldly striped blanket covers his shoulders and arms crossed in front of him. He wears a scarf about his head. A wall is visible behind him.; The Walapai (or Wallapai) are related to the Apache but refused to follow them in their raids. They rendered valuable assistance to U.S. Troops in the wars with the Apache.
