Title
Possible Roman dragonesque brooch
Description
English: A copper alloy possible Roman brooch, possibly a dragonesque type, dating from 75 - 175 AD. It is poorly formed and badly bent and corroded. It is S shaped in plan with a wide and very thin plate (0.98mm) in the centre and a circular sectioned curved neck at each end. It is much thinner and less well made than most dragonesque brooches. It could also be a Post Medieval snake strap fitting, but again, it seems too thin and flimsy. The edges of the central plate are broken, and the metal has a poorly developed brown green patina.
