Title |
Post-Medieval Tuning Peg |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy possible tuning peg. A slightly tapered round section pin with screw thread or grooves running around it, more heavily worn on one side. An integrally cast thin [1mm] expanded plate with a curved top is set at the broad end of the pin, and was probably sandwiched between plates of bone or ivory which would have lain flush with the top of the pin. According to the interpretation suggested, the plate would be used as a finger-grip to adjust the tension of musical instrument strings. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1850.
Length: 27.7mm, Diameter (pin): 3.5mm, Width (handle): 15.8mm, Weight: 2.94gms. |
