Title |
Post-Medieval silver wire chape |
||
Description |
English: Post medieval handle grip or chape made of multiple strand silver plaited wire, dating from 16th to 18th century. The item is cylindrical in shape; it is open at one end and has a closed, rounded end at the opposite end. The whole of the item is now flattened in appearance due to damage. The wire, which is circular in section, measures c.0.5mm; ten of these wires are combined to form a larger 'thread' measuring c.5mm. The thread has then been woven together to form a basket weave pattern. |
