English: Incomplete cast copper alloy toy, probably that of a musket or similar firearm of probable post medieval date (1600-1700). The firearm is incomplete and is irregular in plan and profile. It consists of an irregular oval shaped faceted barrel which extends into an ornately shaped irregular stock. The stock is broadly rectangular in plan and in cross section; it tapers from the junction with the barrel and then flares to form the lower stock. An incomplete / broken cast trigger guard is positioned directly beneath the barrel and adjacent to the stock. Above the trigger is the small priming hole to fire the musket. This has a cast outer ridge and the hole is filled with soil. It has an approximate diameter of 3.3mm. The outer surfaces of both the barrel and stock are not decorated although cast decoration has been lost through abrasion.

The toy measures 74.8mm length, 7.4mm width, is 26.8mm thick and weighs 15.34 grams.

It is a mid-grey colour with an even but abraded patina. The edges are worn and abraded, in places the metal has also started to laminate, especially at the mouth of the musket. Where this occurs a light green coloured active corrosion is present. Similar toy muskets and firearms have been published by Forsyth and Egan 2005, section 1 pages 88-104. This example is most similar to Type 5, broadly dated to the period 1600-1640 AD.
