Title
Post Medieval Toy Musket
Description
English: An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper-alloy toy musket, c. 1600-1640 AD. Forsyth and Egan Type 5, Design 5. The toy musket is only missing the lower portion of its handle. The musket seems to have been cast in one piece, with a fishtail butt, a plain facetted barrel and angular trigger guard. There is a pronounced ridge at the breech which curves around to form a wedge-shaped pan. The stock is plain and the barrel has five sets of incised transverse lines, alternating between a set of double lines near the barrel, to a single line, followed by a further double set at the centre, a single and then a double again nearest to the pan. The pan is conical in shape and is angled into the breech. There is a small raised wedge to the right of the pan. The toy measures 109 mm long, 63 mm approximate barrel length, 7.4 mm diameter (barrel-end); 30 grams.

Cf. Forsyth with Egan 2005, p. 95, no. 1.34; however, the design seems closer to Ibid. p96, no. 1.37.
