Description
English: Farah, Afghanistan, Province Governor Rahool Amin (center of photo with hat and glasses), speaks with a Kabul based ministry of rehabilitation and rural development team about their recent assessment of the local village Shewan, located in the Bala Baluk District, Oct. 22, Shewan, Afghanistan. Until about three weeks ago Shewan was heavily occupied with Taliban forces and considered an unsafe location for the governor or National or American Forces. However, the Taliban were cleared from the village by members of the Marine Special Operations Command and the Afghan national army during a mission called Operation Red Thunder that began Sept. 26. The Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team, the 82nd Airborne Division, and the local Afghan national police provided support during Red Thunder. The peak of the fighting occurred Sept. 29, and the operation was successfully completed Oct. 1, allowing the local government to begin planning reconstruction of the village of Shewan.
