Extractionis provided for by the open windows, by fireplaces or stoves, by shafts sur-rounding or alone-side the chimney or Hue, or by special shafts. In winterthe fresh air supply may require to be warmed, and this may conveniently bedone by ventilating fireplaces, radiators, etc. Equable warming of the ward-is best effected by means of hot water or steam pipes running round them,or laid beneath the floor if it be not of wood; an open tire assists ventilationand provides cheerful warmth.
