IMAGE: Furness Railway Companys Steamer Gwalia ...made to the marine department of the Board of Trade for the alteration of the name of the steamer to Lady Moyra after Moyra Cavendish the wife of Lord Richard Cavendish one of the directors of the Furness Railway. This is not the first paddle steamer acquired by the Furness Company from the Bristol Channel, as some years ago, the Lady Margaret was purchased from Messrs. P. and A. Campbell. The latter vessel was afterwards sold to the Admiralty, and her place was taken by the Philomel, formerly owned by the General Steam Navigation Company. The Gwalia is a larger and faster boat than any of her predecessors on the Barrow and Fleetwood service, and the Furness Company are to be congratulated on securing such a fine vessel. She was a great favourite on the Bristol Channel, and her acquisition will no doubt tend further to popularise the Furness route. 522 THE RAILWAY TIMES. (May 21, 1910. MEETINGS AND REPORTS.
