The door itself is composed of five cast sections with two half-sections, oneat each end. The sections are bolted to-gether through a flange on the outside,and are filled with fire-brick inside. Thecentral chain is the one which does thelifting, being attached to a hook oper-ated by a 6-inch air cylinder with about30-inch stroke. The two side chainspass over pulleys bracketed against thewall and pass outside the wail of thebuilding where two counter-weights, each and at the same time makes the long,low fire-proof door equivalent to one offrom ten to twelve feet high. Two flatbar iron diagonals, from the doorproper, are bolted to a flat, iron cross-brace, as shown at A.
