Highsmith Archive, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.; Title, date and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.; Settled by Slovenian and Croatian immigrants who came to the United States from what was then Czechoslovakia to work in Pueblo's steel mills following World War I, Eiler's, named for a nearby smelter where many of its regulars worked, took the place of an old grocery store in the building in 1933, at the end of Prohibition. It has remained in the same family since then. Vertovec and his sister, Sue Mekita, own the place today (in 2015). The flags of the United States, Croatia, and Slovenia, left to right, hang near the bar's entrance.
