Text Appearing Before Image:
1916, and was killed in action near Ginchy on25th September of that year, during the Battle of theSomme. Lieut.-Col. Lord Henry Seymour wrote :— Your son was killed leading his men in an attack on aGerman line of trenches. It was entirely successful;adding, He led his men most gallantly. Lieut. Burman wrote :—- Your son was considered by his brother officers and themen (and especially do I say the men, for their opinionalways counts for more, and they seldom make a mistake)as a very gallant officer indeed, and I personally miss himmore than any of the others, most of whom had been inthe battalion for some time. I could not help becomingvery fond of him, as did everyone who knew him. Hewas liked and admired by ail. The Chaplain also wrote:— It was my sad privilege to take the funeral service ashort way behind the spot where he fell. The action ofthe 25th should thrill historians of the future. It wasmagnificent the way the battalion faced their task andwon their way. OportoStaff
