English: A British Mk13 1,000 pound bomb was discovered by construction workers excavating the land behind a small industrial facility near Mt. Goles, Kosovo. The site was home to Yugoslavian ammunition bunkers during the Kosovo conflict. It is most likely that the unexploded bomb was purposely dropped during the 1999 NATO bombing campaign, according to Cpt. Frank Pangelinan, commander of the 217th Explosive Ordnance Company, deployed to Kosovo as part of Multinational Battle Group- East.
The California National Guard Unit arrived in Kosovo in September 2012. Since then, they have responded to 94 incidents in conjunction with the Kosovo Security Forces EOD team. They have disposed of 161 ordnance items, 53 since the start of 2013. (U.S. Army photo by Cpt. Frank Pangelinan, 217th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company.) |
